Small-town Atmosphere

Ahwatukee is the most distinctive of Phoenix’s 15 villages in that most Phoenix area communities melt into one another for what seems like an eternity, this community has mostly natural borders isolating it. South Mountain Park and the Gila River Indian Community border it on the north and west and south. Its eastern border is defined by the I-10 freeway. In essence, it is a sizable island (35 square miles). This contributes to the small-town atmosphere, which is unique to the Phoenix area.

While it has that small-town atmosphere, it is not small enough where everyone knows you as it had 83,464 residents as of the 2016 census.

The two public high schools (Mountain Pointe and Desert Vista) score much higher than most Arizona school districts. These both are under the Tempe Union High School District. Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport is about 20-30 minutes away, depending on where you live in Ahwatukee. And now, with the 202 highway going around Ahwatukee, getting to work will be even quicker, especially if you need to go to the west valley.
