Ahwatukee is the most distinctive of Phoenix’s 15 villages in that most Phoenix area communities melt into one another for what seems like an eternity, this community has mostly natural borders isolating it. South Mountain Park and the Gila River Indian Community border it on the north and west and south. Its eastern border is defined by the I-10 freeway. In essence, it is a sizable island (35 square miles). This contributes to the small-town atmosphere, which is unique to the Phoenix area.

The two public high schools (Mountain Pointe and Desert Vista) score much higher than most Arizona school districts. These both are under the Tempe Union High School District. Additionally, there are charter and private schools in Ahwatukee too.

Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport is about 20-30 minutes away, depending on where you live in Ahwatukee. And now, with the 202 highway going around Ahwatukee, getting to work will be even quicker, especially if you need to go to the west valley.
